Diamond Lenses
Diamond single lenses and lens arrays have found considerable interest in terahertz spectroscopy and CO2 laser surgery. As the focussing element of a laser handpiece diamond lenses provide significant advantages including bio-compatibility, high-power handling capability, optical transparency in the visible (important for superimposed guiding laser beams) and robust surfaces (easy cleaning).
In the terahertz region diamond is an attractive optical material due to the absence of any absorption bands and due to its low refractive dispersion.
